The Thayer leadership lessons were brought to life for millions of people by Leaderly AI CEO Drew Bartkiewicz, CLO Albert Alba and West Point classmate Patrice Sutherland.
Albert Alba and Drew Bartkiewicz architected the Leaderly continuous learning and engagement experience at their former engineering building at West Point. They are both aerospace engineers.

In 2022, I went back to West Point and “took boards” with a fellow aerospace engineer, Albert Alba. We mapped out what would be the daily flows and lift-offs of both information and introspection, to help people grow the lifelong habit of leadership. In other words, how would we codify and deliver the daily cadence of not just leadership, but of continuous learning as well? We used design, engineering, data science, AI and behavioral sciences to shape how technology could simultaneously grow the interest and addiction to leaderly behaviors. Our friend Patrice Sutherland helped us on the psychology front. She exemplified that tenacity at USMA. And so on that day, on those boards, armed with my 30 years in software and airlifted by the stamina of Gregory D Gadson we made the blueprint for Leaderly AI. Since then, several hundred thousand “leadable” moments have been delivered to others. Yes, it’s just software. But it’s the persistent delivery of this leadership rhythm and learning mindset that is the outcome. What we all learned since 1989 is that the greatest gift of West Point isn’t the credential of leadership, but rather the lifetime addiction to learn to lead with the persistent curiosity, humility and introspection that leadership demands.
