The Advantages of Having a Great Team

Whether you are a small, growing enterprise or a large multi-national business with decades of operating years under your belt, the team around you will have a significant impact on your success as an individual and as a business. I have always been a firm believer in employing individuals that are better than me and looking for qualities in my team members that I do not possess.

Only a true entrepreneur can identify their own shortcomings. This is why I recruit those who can fill in these gaps in knowledge, bringing different talents and capabilities into the businesses in which I am involved with.

Below, I explore just a few of the many advantages of having a great team around you.

Difference of opinions

A great team is a diverse team and the more eclectic your workforce, the better. That's because having different opinions and viewpoints in the business allows you to identify potential issues, new market opportunities and so much more. Also, being challenged is healthy, especially when by your team members. This creates a culture where staff feel listened to, valued and where team members are constantly learning from one another. Plus, a highly skilled workforce will only ever be an advantage!

Build you up

Being a business owner/entrepreneur can be very tough and in some cases, very lonely. This is something I covered a few weeks ago in my blog post about how we must protect the mental health of our business leaders. By having a strong team around you, they can build you up during those business lulls or challenging periods.

Fresh ideas

Innovative ideas don't come from lone geniuses. By bouncing ideas around in your team, you can turn a single thought into a market-disrupting idea with legs. And as we all know, a business without new ideas is a stagnant one.

Sharing responsibilities

No man/woman is an island and world-leading businesses are not created by lone soldiers. Whether you are developing the next big technology startup or are opening a restaurant on the high street, being able to share your workload with a great team will allow you to meet your targets quickly and in an efficient manner.

I am proud to say that I have over the years built a wonderful, beautifully diverse team in which I believe to be my most significant asset.
